This region is a very special place for me as a resident in Christchurch, as I explore the tracks and hills here most weeks.
This series of images was inspired in 2021 by an experience at Rakaia Gorge, as part of my studies at ARA Christchurch, where I set out to explore the beautiful and often overlooked forms found at the Otokitoki region (Godley Head).
I find that being so close to the ocean and rolling hills, while often completely alone, helps me to ground myself and to be more present. During daylight Godley Head is reassuringly familiar.
Night time is a complete different experience, as I find myself alone in total pitch dark amongst the stars, with the wind blowing, ocean crashing and listening to my foot steps. I’m fascinated that my perception of the forms that surround me became disorientated, warped and different.
These series of images reflects my experiences.
