Back in 2013 shortly after shifting from Christchurch post quakes to Auckland Central… I fell for the now iconic Fujifilm X100T camera. This was my first exploration into high quality mirrorless image making, and also living central within a busy City. Like most new comers to Auckland City I found myself involved with so many social clubs, exciting opportunities and experiences. I particularly enjoyed walking the streets solo or with friends to capture the soul of the city- especially at night. I did not know at this time, but the slower pace and more intentional photography on the X100T would be a catalyst for moving to analog cameras and exploring more personal work in the following years.
Here are a few images captured during my time spent in Central Auckland on the Fujifilm X100T, that make up an experimental body of work outside of commercial image making at the time. I guess it’s also a series in time where I played around more with colour, shape, form and environments more too. I’ve attempted to rekindle my love for street photography over the past decade but I’ve not been successful. I feel that this period in my photographic journey won’t be reproduced again and that makes this series of work even more insightful for me.
Another body of similar work captured during the same period on the Olympus OMD EM5 is here.
